HOW IT WORKS

  1. Farmers’ markets partner with community organizations who are connected with individuals and families who would benefit from greater access to food.
  2. Community partners select participants and distribute weekly community food currency.
  3. Participants use the currency to purchase food from farmers at their local farmers’ market.

FAQS

Direct Farm Manitoba exists to represent and advocate for the direct market farmers and farmers’ markets in Manitoba. The Manitoba Community Food Currency Program is a win for producers, a win for farmers’ markets and a win for communities!

This program aims to provide these positive outcomes:

  • Greater access to fresh, local food households struggling with food insecurity
  • Strengthened communities through relationship building, increased health outcomes, and improved overall mental health
  • Support for local resilient agriculture through the direct support of Manitoba farmers

Community food currency is distributed by partner organizations. To find out where the program operates, and what community organizations we are currently partnering with, please see ‘Where we operate’ below. Please reach out to community partner organizations directly, as Direct Farm Manitoba does not distribute community food currency to participants.

*Please note that the program is full for 2024
