FortWhyte Farms engages under-served youth in Winnipeg using sustainable agriculture to acquire employment training and build leadership skills while instilling values of individual and community self-reliance.
We raise organic vegetables, culinary herbs and bedding plants on 1.5 acres and in a passive solar, cold-climate greenhouse.
Our heritage breed livestock are raised humanely on pasture and available farm gate and at our on-site Farmer’s Market.
FortWhyte Farms is a social enterprise, a business whose purpose goes beyond a purely financial “bottom line” to see profit in the far reaching social and economic benefits that extend into the lives of individuals, families and communities.
Poco-Razz Farm has been in business since 1982. We are primarily a horse boarding facility but we have a large U-Pick operation during the growing season. We are located on the south side of Winnipeg, just past the Floodway Bridge on St. Mary’s Road, where it intersects with Greenview Road. We are 15 minutes south of the St. Vital Mall. We are not a certified organic farm but follow the practices that would allow us to be certified if we applied for that certification.
Ten years in the making – that’s how long we have helped our land undergo a transformation from traditional large scale farming into a chemical free fertile Red River Valley soil again. We don’t use chemical fertilizers or sprays. The land is breathing and functioning like it should. Organic inputs have helped this land produce some of the best tasting and healthiest food you can find.
The Loewen Homestead is also home to free-range animals such as egg-laying hens and roaster chickens. The animals’ diets include fresh spinach, beet tops, Swiss chard and corn. We also add flax and linoleic acid to the layer’s diet to boost omega 3 content in the eggs.
We deliver the food to your door.

Prairie Sweetheart Honey is a small-scale apiary producing natural, high-quality honey from urban hives located in the Charleswood area of Winnipeg, MB.
Happy, healthy bees are our number one concern. We care for and protect these pollinators because bees play a vital role in the balance of nature; especially in the pollination of many farming initiatives, community gardens, orchards and seed industries.
Our honey has a unique and delicious taste because of its proximity to Assiniboine Forest, one of Canada’s largest urban nature parks. Also nearby, the Leo Mol English Gardens has local and imported plants blooming throughout the growing season and the Assiniboine River has a large variety of flora found along the banks.
We believe that small farming initiatives are key to a greener and brighter future. Prairie Sweetheart Honey is one small part of the bigger picture.
