FARM BIO

Poco-Razz Farm has been in business since 1982. We are primarily a horse boarding facility with a large U-Pick operation during the growing season. We are located on the south side of Winnipeg, just past the Floodway Bridge on St. Mary's Road, where it intersects with Greenview Road. We are 15 minutes south of the St. Vital Mall. We are not a certified organic farm but follow the practices that would allow us to be certified if we applied for that certification.

FARM PRACTICES

All vegetables are hand-planted in soil tilled on a regular basis to minimize weed growth. We use no pesticides or herbicides on our vegetables. Soil testing is done bi-yearly and our vegetables are rotated every year. Our own irrigation system provides water on a regular basis. All crops are hand-weeded.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Beginning the summer planting cycle

The garden has been planted. Our garden crew was very efficient in hand planting our hill vegetables, such as pumpkins and squash. They did an excellent job is planting our seed potatoes, tomatoes, and corn. This year we put in 27 rows of sweet corn due to its popularity. We planted more pumpkins because they are so popular. We added a row of super giant pumpkins. Our winter garlic is doing very well. We planted more of the winter garlic this year so more people will be able to harvest it. The beets and carrots, as usual, will be fun for the kids to harvest.

July 11, 2017
The crops are growing nicely. We have been watering and weeding so that the vegetables will grow nicely. We anticipate some of the vegetables maturing by the end of July. We are not growing strawberries or other kinds of fruit.

August 15, 2017
The winter garlic is ready to be purchased. The pickling cukes are starting to produce and should be ready by the time you get here. We have green tomatoes and small beets. Everything else is growing nicely and should be ready in one or two weeks.
